Presentation of a Cartosemiotic
Glossary
Hansgeorg
Schlichtmann (Regina, Canada) & Alexander Wolodtschenko(Dresden, Germany)
The
cartosemiotic vocabulary is an important part of modern cartographic
terminology. The paper introduces a
draft version of a glossary of cartosemiotics, which is a project of the ICA
Commission on Theoretical Cartography.
Entries include selected general terms of cartography and semiotics,
items relating to the field of cartosemiotics as a whole, and terms which
pertain specifically to map language.
The draft glossary is intended to contain 60 to 70 entries (keywords
with definitions and comments), among them some longer essays. The text, written in English, is complemented
by an alphabetic index in English, German, and Russian.
